My new favourite game

Tory-bashing. It’s brilliant. I’ve never been one to shy away from mouthing off about politics, but it has never been so satisfying as coming up with new and wonderfully insulting ways to talk about our Con-Dem Government.

It’s all over the papers too. The Grauniad is particularly good at it. I’ve spent many an hour chuckling at articles poking fun at the Con-Dems. I’ll post links soon; there are many articles which are worth investigating!

In the mean time, I’ll try and make Tory-bashing the silver lining on the rubbish election results. Hopefully it will entertain me for 5 years…

I should be in holiday mode :(

Definitely no trip for me. Can’t even get on Air France’s website to re-book; it keeps saying their reservations system is down! Looks like we might go on the weekend after next, which is bank holiday weekend here so I will only need to take 1 day annual leave.

I’m a bit bummed because it looked like the weather was going to be lovely there. But at least I can get some rest this weekend and try and sort my head out. I feel all stressed and bothered at the minute so I think the time out will be good. I can organise my thoughts and be in a much better place when I do eventually go to France, so I guess there’s a silver lining there.

At least the weather is nice today, it’s lovely and sunny. I’m going to work until lunchtime, then go and do some shopping. I need to buy some necessities so it’s not like I’m shopping for fun. I need some air and I need some toothpaste :)

Forgiveness?

I had a weird daydream today.  If you’ve noticed my tweets you’ll see that I’ve not been doing a whole lot of work.  I’ve been reading Eclipse.  I am well and truly addicted.

I started New Moon on Tuesday to try and take away the misery of my return to work; brain candy literature always makes me feel better.  This morning on the train into Glasgow I finished it.  I needed to find out what happened next, so at lunchtime I went out to Waterstones and bought Eclipse and Breaking Dawn.  Via the refectory, where I picked up some lunch, I headed straight back to my desk and started the third book in the series.

This is where this post gets a little weird.  But stick with it, I have a point, I swear.

To Mac or not to Mac?

October 27, 2009 Leave a comment

Had a brilliant day off yesterday (post to follow) so was pretty depressed to come back into work today.  On top of the back-to-work blues I seem to be completely disorganised, and don’t remember accepting meetings that have appeared in my calendar and have meetings in my calendar that nobody else appears to know about… peculiar.  It might have something to do with our upgrade to a new version of Lotus Notes (which, I think, is IBM’s answer to Outlook but with super-duper security) and the fact I’ve been quite cavalier about my inbox lately.

Anyhoo, this Lotus Notes thing takes a bit of getting used to.  I asked my boss why we don’t use Outlook, because everyone seems to complain about how un-intuitive Notes is, and he said that for a quango such as ourselves, Outlook does not provide the required security level.  I had always thought that Outlook was pretty secure, but perhaps not.  It got me thinking about my Mac vs PC debate.  I will never forgive my laptop for screwing up and losing all my photos, but I don’t know if it warrants a response that switches to a new system entirely.

Why the gym is bad for you

September 25, 2009 Leave a comment

After my 3lb weight loss yesterday I was reasonably chuffed with myself, but at the same time felt a bit rubbish because I was generally feeling down this week.  Anyway, despite feeling hungry and fed up I went to the gym after work.  That was a mistake.

I used to be a believer in the “just go, you’ll feel better afterwards” strategy of gym attendance, but recently have been dabbling in the “listen to your body, if you’re tired skip it” religion.  However last night I told my body to shut up and I was going to attend the gym because I was going to make sure I lost another 3lb this week.

I did my cardio (20 mins on elliptical trainer) and some weights, but I wasn’t really paying attention because I was angry at P (for being a flake, as usual) and I was distracted by a weird noise coming from my iPhone.  So I was doing some free weights and after the second set I went to put the weights down as I always do and somehow managed to trap my thumb between the heavy ends of the weights.  It hurt SO much I felt really sick, my heart was pounding and I was getting the classic ear-ringing cold-sweating signs that I was about to pass out.
